Questions

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes, Hypnotherapy is considered a safe therapeutic technique. You will remain fully conscious and maintain control throughout each session. Hypnosis can offer long-lasting positive outcomes for many individuals. It can effectively address a range of physical and psychological issues, including addictions such as smoking or overeating and depression/ anxiety.

What does it feel like to be in hypnosis?

In contrast to stage hypnosis, which often involves participants engaging in exaggerated behaviours, clinical hypnosis is characterised by a serene, attentive state marked by heightened awareness and suggestibility. Individual experiences differ; some report sensations of warmth and heaviness, while others describe feeling light and buoyant.

Will I lose control during hypnotherapy?

No. Even while experiencing deep relaxation during hypnosis, you will retain full awareness and control over your actions. The process facilitates increased focus and inward reflection without compromising voluntary decision-making.

Can I get stuck in a trance?

It is not possible to become permanently “stuck” in a hypnotic state. You will always remain aware and can return to full consciousness whenever you wish, either independently or following my cue. You may choose to remain relaxed briefly due to the pleasant sensation, but exiting the hypnotic state is always under the individual’s control.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes. Hypnosis is possible for individuals who willingly choose to participate; it cannot be imposed on someone against their will.

How does hypnotherapy work?

The conscious mind is rational and drives our desires, while the subconscious stores learned behaviours and beliefs from early life, often leading to automatic habits. When the conscious and subconscious are aligned, change becomes possible. Hypnosis enables direct communication with the subconscious, helping replace harmful patterns with positive ones that align with conscious goals.

Is online hypnotherapy effective?

Absolutely. Individuals respond to a hypnotherapist’s voice from anywhere, making remote sessions convenient. This approach saves on travel costs and lets clients relax at home after their session. Many hypnotherapists now practice exclusively online, and this method has proven to be just as effective as in-person sessions. Research directly comparing online and face-to-face hypnotherapy demonstrates no significant differences in treatment outcomes.

What happens if we get cut off during the session?

Online sessions are rarely interrupted, but if they are, you won’t stay in hypnosis; you’ll become aware of the silence and open your eyes naturally. I will quickly contact you, by phone or text, to resume. You always have full control and can pause or restart the session simply by opening and closing your eyes.

What is neuroplasticity? How does it work in hypnosis?

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to reorganise itself by forming new connections. Hypnosis leverages this process through deep relaxation, helping reprogramme brain pathways to address unwanted behaviours, thoughts, and addictions. Since subconscious patterns drive many automatic decisions, hypnotherapy enables rapid updates of these habits, encouraging positive change with minimal conscious effort much like updating faulty software on a computer.

How many sessions will I need?

The recommended number of sessions is tailored to a client’s individual objectives and circumstances. For concerns related to anxiety, a typical treatment plan consists of six to eight sessions; however, this may vary depending on specific needs. Clients seeking assistance with smoking cessation often achieve their goals within a single extended session. Sessions are generally organised in groups of four on a weekly basis, as this timeframe is conducive to forming new neural pathways and facilitating behaviour change. Certain issues may necessitate ongoing or additional sessions.
